LTI
(abbreviation of Learning Tools Interoperability)
Describes the specification of an education technology, which was developed by the IMS Global Learning Consortium and has its origin in the Google Summer of Code Project in 2008.
It represents a method of a learning system for invoking external systems and for communicating with them.
For example a Learning Management System (LMS) can use LTI to host course content and tools, which are supported by external third parties of a website, with information about the learner and the learning context, which is shared with external systems. Thus the learner hasn’t to register separately on the external systems.
The current version (IMS Security Framework und LTI v1.3) was published in May 2019. This version is based on OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and JWT (JSON Web Tokens).
