Community for users and team leaders

The community is your personal news stream. It is shown at the start page and on the tab Community.

The community keeps you up to date about all important events of your learning units. If you were registered or deregistered of a learning unit by an author, this short message appears also in your community and via groups you can communicate tightly focused. If the author has allowed you to upload files in the community, the paper clip

is shown in the short message (see screenshot number 2). Depending on which MIME types and how many files and which maximum size are allowed, you can select and upload files after clicking the paper clip. File uploads are deactivated per default. The author activates this function on the tab Options in the Client wizard.

Note

There is a selection of emojis via the shortcut windows key and the point key (“.”) available. Furthermore you can select the emojis in the Community group title and in the short description by clicking into the favored place in the entry field and using the shortcut.

Search

You can search in the whole user frontend or team leader cockpit for learning untis. You set a filter regarding your just entered searching item. You get the corresponding learning units as result. You can open them via click on it. If you click on the button Show filter, filters are shown on the left side. You can select the appropriate line by clicking on it. You close the filter via clicking the X.

Structure

Basically the Avendoo® community has three areas:

1. Navigation (tabs)

  • News
    Personal pin wall
    Personal pin walls
    Listing of the personal pin walls of other users, you are friend with as learner.
  • Groups
    Listing of all groups, you have joined as learner
  • Learning units
    List of news regarding the learning units

Note:  As user you see the learning assistant(s) of the learning group. As team leader you see additionally all participants for performing your role as coach.

2. Community messages

  • News stream with the following news:
    • System messages (e.g.:  a learner has registered to a new learning unit.)
    • Messages from all groups, you have joined, also from learning groups which the learner has joined
    • Messages from the course communities, of which the learner is registered to
    • Messages, which are sent to the client, to which you are assigned as learner
    • Messages at the personal pin wall of the learner
    • Messages to other participants of the learning group and to the learning assistant of the learning group

Notes:

  • You can rate messages and comments with the Like button.
  • You can download attachments of a community message, because community messages can include attachments by an enhancement of the API.

3. Group details (top)

only groups and personal pin walls 

  • Name of the group
  • Short description
  • Name of the founder
  • Date of foundation
  • Members of the group (profile images)
  • Learning units

Private messages

If you are learning assistant of a learning group, you can send private messages to all participants of the learning group. The author defines the learning assistant of the appropriate learning group on the tab Learning group settings when creating the learning group.

To subcribe to a new pin wall, choose Personal  pin walls → Add friend. If you want to join a new group, choose Groups → Join. Then select the favored pin wall or group and click on the button Add friend or the button Join group.

News

In the news you see all community messages in a news stream. These are system messages, which are generated on registration to new learning units, event date announcements (see screenshot), messages, which are published at pin walls, course communities, community groups or learning groups for example. Click on …further messages to display previous posts.

Publish short message

You can publish own short messages in the community, read short messages of other users (team leader and users and authors) and comment it and communicate. A short message can be read by all users in the same client. It is a pin wall for the whole client. To post a new message, use the appropriate text field. If you want, you can insert emojis by using the shortcut windows key and point key at the favored place in the entry field.

If the author has activated file uploads in the Client wizard, you can choose the allowed files and upload them, as defined in number and size (see screenshot number 3). Therefore click on the

paper clip and confirm your selection.

Attach picture to short message

If you click the picture icon, you complete your short message with a picture. Note: If you add a picture to the short message, you don’t change your profile picture.

Notes
  • To change your personal profile picture, click the user name or the profile picture and then choose My profile.
  • To display the uploaded pictures correctly the transmission of the EXIF data is important, which contain also information about the format (portrait format of landscape format). If you upload a picture from an Apple iPad for example this information about the format is only transferred on uploading the original format.

 Remove picture

Via clicking this icon you remove the added picture.


YouTube link detection

Once you have entered a YouTube link in the text field of a short message, Avendoo® detects the link and shows then the appropriate video in preview format in the post.


Publish short message

Via clicking the button Send or using alternatively the shortcut “STRG+Enter” your post gets viewable. Just select where the short message should be seen (everywhere, personal pin wall, groups).

Personal pin wall

The personal pin wall of a user is his/her own group. In this view you see your profile picture, your name and your personal description. Furthermore you see the users, which have subscribed to your pin wall and you are friend with.

You can register or deregister to personal pin walls. Also you can write in already existing personal pin walls, even if the community setting Community groups can be created and managed by learners on the tab Options in the Client wizard isn’t selected.

You see in the list on the left side all personal pinn walls of the team leaders, users (learners) and authors you are friend of.

Add friend
To add friends with other Personal Pinnwalls, click +Add friend. The dialog window Find friends opens, where you can search via filter. Click the button Add in the appropriate line.


User details

If you click Me under Personal pinwall, you get to the user and groups details. There you see the name, the profile picture and the personal description. If the view is free, you find also a list of groups, which the selected user has joined (See more about).

Publish short message

To publish a new short message, use the appropriate text field. If you want, you can insert emojis by using the shortcut windows key and point key at the favored place in the entry field. Via click on the picture icon you complete your short message with a picture and via click on Send you publish your short message. These messages can only be read by users, who are friends and have subscribed to your pin wall.

paper clip and confirm your selection.

Finally, click the button Send or use alternatively the shortcut “STRG+Enter” to publish the short message.


To add a user to your personal pin wall, click the button +Add friend. The list Find friends opens with the button Add.

Find friends
Via the search you find quickly a friend in a very great group of friends.

Add
Click the button Add for adding a friend to your Personal pinwall.

The list below Personal Pinwalls show you all added user of the group.


Community EinstellungenSettings

You can change in the settings of your personal pin wall only the permission. Finally click on Accept changes to save the changes.

Permission
Define, which permission the participants of the group should have (Read, comment, write message | Read and comment| Read) and how they are allowed to join the pin wall.

Join option

The pin wall is for any other user in the area Personal pin walls → Add friend viewable and via Join group any user can join.

The pin wall is for any other user in the area Personal pin wall → Add friend viewable. Via click on the button Request approval the founder of the group receives an approval request. Only if the approval is given, the user joins the group.

The pin wall isn’t shown in the area Personal pin walls → Add friend. The owner of the pin wall has to add new members manually via the button Participants.

Groups

Groups are an own community in the Avendoo® community. Groups simplify the communication between certain groups of persons and arrange that the information only is shared to certain users. Each learner can establish a new group and add participants.

The members of groups receive in their news stream a message, if a member publishes a new short message in the group.

You see in the list on the left side all groups, which you have already joined.

Join
To see further groups and to join them, click Join.

+ New group
To establish a new group, click +New group.  See chapter Establish a new group.

To add a participant to the appropriate group, click Participants. A list opens with the tabs Participants and Add.

Important: This function is only available, if you are owner of the group. Otherwise you get displayed only the members of the group.

Participants
The listing shows you all registered users of the group. 

Add
To add a user to the group, select the tab Add and click the button Add besides the favored user. A search is available for finding a user quickly.


Community EinstellungenSettings

You can define the details of the group in the group settings. Finally click the button Accept changes to save your data. Important: Also these functions are only available, if you are the owner of the group.

Permission

Define which permissions the participants of the group have (Read, comment, write messages | Read and comment | Read) and how to join the group:

The group is for every other user in the area Groups viewable. Via the link Join group every other user can join the group.

The group is for every other user in the area Groups viewable. Via click on the button Request approval  Avendoo® sends an approval request to the founder of the group. Only when the approval was given by the founder of the group, the user has joined the group.

The group is not shown in the area Groups. The owner of the group or an author of the client has to add new member of the group manually via the buton Participants.

Establish a new group

To establish a new group, select in the navigation on the left side + New group. A new dialog window opens.

  1. Enter a significant title for the group and enter a short description. If you want, you can insert emojis by using the shortcut windows key and point key at the favored place in the entry field.
  2. To add a group picture, click the button Select and select a picture file correspondent to the requirements (minimum size 210 Pixel x 210 Pixel and maximum 4 MB) on your computer.
  3. Define the permissions for the participants via the appropriate select button.
  4. Define the appropriate joining option.
  5. Define in which group an opening message for the new group should be shown. An opening message can be sent to the client and to selected groups. This message contains the creator of the opening message, the title of the new group, the date and time of the group foundation.
  6. Click the button Establish new group.

Option: Public with approval

1.Establish a new group

If you establish a new group (Community → + New group), you have three joining options. To activate the approval procedure for a group, select Public with approval.

2. Another user does an approval request

If another user (author, user or team leader) searches for a new group, he/she clicks in the navigation area under Groups on Join. He/she gets all available groups listed, which he/she can join. If the group is Public with approval, the user can request an approval via the button.

On the tab Groups the user gets also all groups displayed, to which he/she has already sent an approval, but the approval wasn’t replied yet.

3. Reply the approval request

As founder of the group you receive a notification that an approval request has arrived. In your news stream appears the system message, for example: Rick City wants to join your group Time management, inclusive the answer options Reject or Approve. Furthermore the area Approvals appears in the navigation area on the left side. The number in brackets represents how many requests are for the group existing.

Group type learning group

A learning group stands for participants of a course activation selected from the author and these participants are coached by a selected team leader as learning assistant. Learning assistants are allowed to display a course preview and the appropriate media.

Authors create and edit the learning groups. Team leader coach the appropriate learning groups as learning assistant. The learning group is also assigned to a course activation and this context is also shown in messages in the learning group.

Collaboration in learning groups

To create a learning group, authors choose Community Group administrationNew group. Then authors enter a titel and a description on the tab Master data. Furthermore authors select on this tab the appropriate client with users and they select the group type Learning group. On the tab Parameters authors define, which permissions for the participants (Read, comment and write message is set by default) should be defined in this learning group. Also authors can select a group picture. On the tab Learning group settings authors define, if participants should be added manually or automatically. Furthermore authors can add a learning assistant and enter Starts on (date) and Ends on (date). Authors define via the starting and end date the duration of the learning assistance. After expiration of these dates the participants of the learning group can’t write messages to the learning assistant and they can’t comment his/her messages. If they try although, they get the note that the learning assistance is expired.

To add participants to the learning group, click on Preview of the appropriate learning group and click in the opening dialog window the button Participants. Then you see a list of already registered users on the tab Participants. Click on the tab Add to select your favored users from the list via the button Add. You can check the registration via the list on the tab Participants.

Furthermore there is the Message history via the button Message history in the Preview available.

Under Relationships authors can add course activations and runs. Avendoo® lists automatically the participants of the course activations and runs and the learning assistant for the learning group.

Publish short message in the learning groups

To publish a short message in the appropriate learning group, click on the appropriate learning group, enter your text in the text field and then click the button Send or use alternatively the shortcut “STRG+Enter”. If you want, you can insert emojis by using the shortcut windows key and point key at the favored place in the entry field. You can also select News in the navigation, enter your text in the text field, select the appropriate learning group in the drop down menu and then click on the button Publish.

paper clip and confirm your selection.

Prerequisite for publishing a short message in the learning group is that the author has assigned you as user of a learning group.

Upload profile picture

If you are in the 1:1 or 1:n chat with the team leader or another learner, you can click in the message area on the avatar to upload the profile picture. In the 1:n chat you can click additionally the avatar in the comment area to upload the profile picture.

Learning units

Learning units
Here you find the course title with the corresponding course communities (if activated) and the learning groups inclusive their learning assistant(s) and participants. In brackets you see always the number of the unread messages. Note that you as a learning assistant of a learning group can only add user, but no authors.

FAQ

To leave a group, click on the appropriate group and select top right besides the settings icon (gear-wheel) the arrow and select Leave group.

The founder of the group can delete the group via click on the arrow and selecting Delete group. As participant you can leave the group.

Yes, you can remove from a personal pin wall. Therefore select the appropriate pin wall and click top right besides the settings icon (gear wheel) on the arrow. Select Leave group.
